TRiO Upward Bound is a federally funded program through the U.S. Department of Education designed to encourage high school students to complete their high school education and pursue higher education.

Information about our program
Goals & Objectives
To provide a customized program based on student academic needs, college goals & interests!
We expect each participant to achieve the following:
- Maintain a GPA of 2.5 and higher
- Achieve proficient level on state assessments in reading/language arts & math
- Take rigorous coursework
- Graduate on time
- Enroll in college the fall after HS graduation
- Complete a college degree within six years
Who is Eligible
Students who attend Moses Lake High School, Vanguard Academy or Warden High School in any grade level whose parents don't hold an AA or higher degree and/or are considered low income according to this chart: https://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ope/trio/incomelevels.html

Summer Program

Academic instruction in English, Math, Lab Science & Foreign Language
- SAT/ACT Test Prep
- Internship Program: Hands on exploration of careers
- BRIDGE Program: HS grads can take a WSU online class for free (and then transfer it to the college they are planning to attend)
Student Commitment
- Students are required to participate throughout the academic year by attending a weekly meeting as well as attend events/trips, each year until high school graduation.
- Students are expected to participate in the Summer Program - Academic Track (up to 6 weeks/Mon-Fri) upon entering the program. The following summers, they may choose to participate in the Internship Track (this track earns a stipend $) or Test Prep Track. Graduates are able to take a class through WSU Online as part of their Summer Program.
- Students are required to complete program requirements such as community service hours, completing a personal statement, applying to scholarships, filling out the FAFSA, completing personality tests, etc. These requirements vary based on their grade levels and are communicated at the beginning of each academic year.
