ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP)

The Advanced Placement program involves college-level courses and exams offered at MLHS. Students have the opportunity to earn and receive credit for AP courses when they go to college. The AP courses are designed to add challenging, college-level material, and expectations to the high school curriculum. These classes provide a greater depth of study and the opportunity to strengthen analytical thinking and reasoning skills. Colleges and universities in Washington State accept AP credits.
Please refer to http://www.collegeboard.org for specific college AP Policy information.

REASONS TO TAKE ADVANCED PLACEMENT CLASSES

  1. Students can earn college credit by choosing a college level class while still in high school.
  2. College credits are very expensive compared to the cost of AP credits.
  3. The AP Program prepares students for the rigor of college-level thinking and work ethic.
  4. Colleges and universities give preference to students who have taken AP classes in deciding which students to accept.
  5. According to the Independent Educational Consultants Association, the number one item colleges want in their applicants is a willingness to challenge themselves with a rigorous program of studies. Academically successful students should include several Honors, and/or Advanced Placement classes.
  6. Top Ten Consideration: As an incentive, the AP students at Moses Lake High School earn ‘5’ points for an A, ‘4’ for a B in determining GPA for determining the Top Ten students.
  7. AP MLHS Scholar: A student must take at least 5 AP courses earning a C- or better as well as take the AP exam for each. AP Scholars are recognized at the Senior Award’s Ceremony and are presented with a medallion to wear at graduation.
